Luxassas

Luxas is a port on the west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It was previously known as Grand Bay. It is located in the Derwent Valley district, approximately 15 kilometers north of the city of Hobart, the state capital of Tasmania.

Luxas was named in 1975 by E.S. Parker and J.B. Tyson, when it was being cleared and surveyed for residential and other new land uses. The name Luxas is derived from a Latin phrase. When the new town centre was built, the area was originally to be a recreational reserve but major revisions have led to several other parcels of land designated and created over the years since which had originally been seemingly speculative land being cleared and later dedicated to housing those speculatively reserved.

In terms of employment, many residents commute to the nearby city of Hobart while others are involved in agriculture, viticulture, and surveying. Luxas is accessible via the Tasman Highway and the New Norfolk Highway. Regular bus transport options from Hobart to New Norfolk can include Luxas as its final stop, changing at the Mersey Hospital in New Norfolk.
