Luonnolliselta

Luonnolliselta is the elative singular form of the Finnish adjective luonnollinen, meaning “natural.” In Finnish, adjectives decline like nouns, so luonno llinen can appear in various cases to match the noun it modifies. The elative case often conveys origin or source, and in practice luonnolliselta appears in expressions where the adjective describes a perceived quality or evaluation that is introduced as coming from or attributed to something natural.

Common uses include predicative complements after verbs of perception or assessment, for example: “se vaikuttaa luonnolliselta” meaning “it seems natural,” and “luonnolliselta tuntuva valinta” meaning “a choice that feels natural.” In these contexts, the word provides the sense that the described attribute is in relation to or originates from the natural.

For contrast, the adverb meaning “naturally” is luonnollisesti, which is used to describe manner of action rather than the source or attribution expressed by elative forms of adjectives. The elative form luonno lliselta should not be substituted for luonnollisesti in most cases, as they serve different grammatical functions.

Morphologically, luon nol liselta shows how Finnish adjectives inflect for case; the corresponding elative plural would be luonnollilta, while the singular elative is luonnolliselta. Awareness of these forms helps in interpreting sentences where the adjective describes a perceived quality or natural origin within an elative construction.
