Luftvärdighetsdirektiv
Luftvärdighetsdirektiv (LVD), or Airworthiness Directive (AD) in English, is a legally enforceable rule issued by a national aviation authority that dictates required actions to be taken to correct an unsafe condition on an aircraft. These directives are typically issued after an investigation reveals a design flaw, manufacturing defect, or operational issue that could compromise the safety of an aircraft. LVDs are mandatory and must be complied with by aircraft owners and operators. They can be of an urgent nature, requiring immediate action, or can be scheduled for a specific period or flight cycle. Compliance with an LVD is a prerequisite for an aircraft to maintain its airworthiness certificate. Failure to comply can result in significant penalties, including grounding of the aircraft. Aviation authorities like the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States are responsible for issuing and enforcing these directives. LVDs are a critical component of aviation safety, ensuring that potential hazards are identified and addressed proactively across the entire fleet of registered aircraft. They are based on rigorous analysis and testing to ensure that the proposed corrective actions are effective and safe.
