Luftverkehrsführungen, or Air Traffic Control (ATC) in English, is the service provided by ground-based controllers who direct aircraft on the ground and through controlled airspace. The primary purpose of ATC is to prevent collisions between aircraft and between aircraft and obstructions, as well as to organize and expedite the flow of air traffic. ATC operates under strict regulations and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.

The ATC system is divided into different sectors, each managed by a controller. These sectors can be further categorized into en route control, terminal control (for aircraft approaching or departing airports), and ground control. Controllers utilize radar, communication systems, and sophisticated software to monitor aircraft positions, issue clearances, and provide instructions to pilots. Pilots are required to adhere to these instructions, which include headings, altitudes, and speeds.
