Luftbahn

Luftbahn is a German term formed from Luft (air) and Bahn (path or track). In aviation discourse it is used to refer to an air route or flight corridor—an identified route that aircraft follow between two points under air traffic control. The term is not a formal, internationally standardized designation in current aviation terminology; modern German-language usage more commonly employs Flugroute, Flugweg, or Luftstraße to denote specific routes, and Flugbahn when describing a trajectory.

In practice, Luftbahn can appear in older technical writings or in contexts that preserve historical terminology from the early days of powered flight. In these sources, Luftbahn may describe the general concept of an aerial path used for navigation, separation, and routing, rather than a precise regulatory category. Contemporary aviation planning relies on standardized airway networks and procedures governed by national authorities and international organizations such as ICAO.

Luftbahn is also encountered in popular culture and speculative fiction as a generic or fictional notion of an aerial transport system. The term may appear in museums, exhibits, or educational materials that aim to convey historical ideas about early air travel.
