Loígis
Loígis refers to a medieval Gaelic kingdom and the people who inhabited a central portion of Ireland, traditionally treated as a túath within the province of Leinster. The name is believed to derive from the ethnonym Loígsi/Loígse, meaning roughly “descendants of Loígse” or “the people of Loígse.” The core territory of Loígis lay in what is now largely the midlands of Ireland, especially parts of modern County Laois, with extensions into adjacent areas of neighboring counties.
