Litiumkobolttioksidi

Litiumkobolttioksidi, chemical formula LiCoO2, is an inorganic compound that plays a significant role as a cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. It is a crystalline solid, typically dark gray or black in color, and is synthesized through various high-temperature processes involving lithium and cobalt compounds. Its primary application is in the rechargeable batteries found in portable electronics such as laptops, smartphones, and digital cameras.

The electrochemical performance of LiCoO2 stems from the reversible intercalation and deintercalation of lithium ions between the cobalt oxide layers. During discharge, lithium ions move from the anode to the cathode, where they are absorbed into the LiCoO2 structure, releasing energy. During charging, this process is reversed. While LiCoO2 offers a high energy density and good rate capability, its relatively high cost, limited thermal stability, and concerns regarding cobalt's ethical sourcing have driven research into alternative cathode materials. Nonetheless, it remains a widely used and well-established material in the battery industry.
