Lipoproteininnhold, also known as lipoprotein profile, is a set of blood tests used to measure the levels of different types of lipoproteins in the blood. Lipoproteins are particles that transport fats, including cholesterol and triglycerides, through the bloodstream. They are categorized into two main groups: high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL).

HDL, often referred to as "good" cholesterol, helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and carries it to the liver for disposal. LDL, known as "bad" cholesterol, carries cholesterol from the liver to the cells. High levels of LDL can lead to the buildup of cholesterol in the arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease.

Other lipoproteins include very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons, which transport triglycerides, and intermediate-density lipoproteins (IDL), which are a transitional form between LDL and HDL.

A lipoprotein profile typically includes measurements of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Abnormal levels of these lipoproteins can indicate an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health conditions. Regular monitoring and management of lipoprotein levels are essential for maintaining cardiovascular health.
