Linjemålestokk
Linjemålestokk, also known as a graphic scale or bar scale, is a visual representation of distance on a map or technical drawing. It consists of a line divided into segments, with each segment labeled with the actual distance it represents. This allows users to measure distances directly on the map by comparing the length of an object or route to the scale bar. Unlike a numerical ratio scale (e.g., 1:10,000), a linjemålestokk remains accurate even if the map is resized or photocopied, as the visual scale is reproduced proportionally. This makes it a practical tool for field use and for situations where the original scale might become distorted. Different maps may have different linjemålestokk markings, reflecting the scale of the represented area. For example, a small-scale map of a country will have a much longer linjemålestokk representing kilometers than a large-scale map of a city block, which might represent meters. Understanding and using the linjemålestokk is crucial for accurate interpretation of spatial information presented in cartographic or technical formats.
