Limagne
Limagne is a large sedimentary basin located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. It is situated in the heart of the Massif Central, a geological region characterized by ancient mountains and volcanic activity. The basin is known for its fertile plains, a stark contrast to the surrounding rugged terrain. Geologically, Limagne is a rift valley, formed by the down-dropping of a block of Earth's crust between faults. This process is part of a larger tectonic phenomenon that has shaped the region over millions of years.
The basin is drained by the Allier River, a major tributary of the Loire. Its fertile soils
