Liitumispolümeerist

Liitumispolümeerist refers to a polymer formed through an addition polymerization reaction. In this process, monomers add to one another in a chain-like fashion without the loss of any atoms. The repeating unit in the polymer has the same empirical formula as the monomer. This type of polymerization is common for monomers containing double or triple bonds, such as alkenes.

The mechanism of addition polymerization typically involves initiation, propagation, and termination steps. Initiation begins with an initiator molecule that forms a reactive species, such as a free radical, anion, or cation. This reactive species then attacks a monomer, creating a growing polymer chain with a reactive end. Propagation is the rapid addition of subsequent monomer units to this reactive end. Termination occurs when the reactive ends of two growing chains combine or react with other species, ending the polymerization process.

Common examples of liitumispolümeerist include polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These polymers are widely used in various applications, including packaging, textiles, construction materials, and automotive parts. The properties of the resulting polymer can be influenced by the type of monomer used, the reaction conditions, and the presence of any branching in the polymer chain. Unlike condensation polymers, addition polymers do not typically lose small molecules like water during their formation.
