Liittoutuneiden

Liittoutuneiden, also known as the Allied Powers, refers to the countries that fought together against the Central Powers in World War I (1914-1918) and against the Axis Powers in World War II (1939-1945). The term "Liittoutuneiden" is Finnish for "Allied" or "Allies."

In World War I, the primary Allied Powers included France, Russia, Britain, Italy, Japan, and the United States. These nations, along with others, formed a coalition to counter the Central Powers, which were primarily Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. The Allies' victory in World War I led to significant geopolitical changes, including the Treaty of Versailles and the dissolution of several empires.

In World War II, the Allied Powers initially consisted of France, Poland, and the United Kingdom. After the invasion of the Soviet Union and the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Soviet Union and the United States joined the Allies. Other nations, including Canada, China, Australia, and many others, also contributed significantly to the Allied effort. The Allies' victory in World War II resulted in the establishment of the United Nations and the beginning of the Cold War.

The term "Liittoutuneiden" is also used in Finnish to refer to the Allied Powers in other contexts, such as historical or military discussions. The Allies' role in both world wars was crucial in shaping the political and social landscape of the 20th century.
