Ligevægtfugtighed

Ligevægtfugtighed refers to the relative humidity of the air in direct contact with a substance when that substance is in a state of equilibrium with the surrounding environment. At this point, there is no net movement of water vapor between the substance and the air. Essentially, the substance is neither losing nor gaining moisture from the atmosphere.

This concept is crucial in various fields, including material science, textiles, food storage, and building construction. For example, wood will reach its ligevægtfugtighed with the ambient air, meaning it will hold a certain amount of moisture depending on the surrounding humidity levels. If the air is drier, the wood will release moisture, and if the air is more humid, the wood will absorb moisture until equilibrium is achieved.
