Ligandivasteet, often translated as ligand binding assays, are experimental techniques used in molecular biology and pharmacology to measure the affinity and specificity of interactions between a ligand and its corresponding receptor or binding protein. These assays are fundamental for understanding how molecules like drugs, hormones, or neurotransmitters exert their effects at the cellular level. The core principle involves incubating a known amount of a labeled ligand (e.g., radiolabeled or fluorescently tagged) with a sample containing the target receptor or protein. By measuring the amount of labeled ligand that binds to the target, researchers can quantify the concentration of binding sites or determine the potency of unlabeled compounds in competing for those sites.

Different types of ligandivasteet exist, each with specific advantages. Saturation assays are used to determine the maximum number of binding sites and the equilibrium dissociation constant, which reflects the affinity of the ligand. Competition assays, on the other hand, are commonly employed to screen for novel compounds that can bind to a specific receptor. In these assays, a fixed concentration of labeled ligand and varying concentrations of unlabeled competitor compounds are incubated with the target. The ability of the unlabeled compound to displace the labeled ligand from the binding site provides a measure of its binding affinity.
