Lifeessence

Lifeessence is a term used to describe a fundamental life principle believed by some to animate living organisms. In philosophical and speculative contexts, it echoes vitalist ideas that a non-physical essence confers vitality beyond observable physical processes. In fiction and esoteric traditions, lifeessence is often depicted as a tangible energy or resource that can be measured, consumed, or transferred.

Historically, lifeessence appears in discussions of vitalism, which posited an intrinsic life force distinct from purely chemical interactions. In modern biology, however, life is explained through chemistry, genetics, metabolism, and complex regulatory networks, and vitalism as a scientific concept has largely been abandoned.
