Lichtbarrières

Lichtbarrieren, also known as light barriers or photoelectric barriers, are safety devices used in industrial automation and other applications to detect the presence or absence of objects. They work by emitting a beam of light, typically infrared or visible light, and a receiver that detects this light. When an object interrupts the beam, the receiver registers the change and triggers an action, such as stopping a machine or sounding an alarm.

There are several common types of lichtbarrieren. Through-beam light barriers consist of a separate emitter and receiver, creating a continuous beam across a gap. Retro-reflective light barriers use a single unit that emits light and reflects it back from a reflector. Diffuse-reflective light barriers also use a single unit but detect light reflected directly from the object itself. The choice of type depends on the specific application, object size, and environmental conditions.

Lichtbarrieren are crucial for safety in many industrial settings, particularly on machinery with moving parts where human access could lead to injury. They are also employed for counting objects on a production line, detecting fill levels in containers, or ensuring proper alignment of components. Their ability to detect objects without physical contact makes them a reliable and non-intrusive sensing solution. Maintenance typically involves ensuring the emitter and receiver are clean and properly aligned to maintain optimal performance.
