Leviämisprosessit, known in English as diffusion processes, refer to the phenomenon of particles or substances spreading out from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. This movement is a fundamental aspect of physical and chemical systems, driven by the random motion of individual particles. In simpler terms, it's the natural tendency for things to disperse evenly.

This process occurs in various contexts. In chemistry, it explains how a drop of ink spreads through water or how gases mix. In biology, diffusion is crucial for the transport of essential molecules across cell membranes, such as oxygen entering cells and carbon dioxide leaving them. It also plays a role in the distribution of nutrients and waste products within organisms.

The rate of diffusion depends on several factors, including temperature, the size and mass of the diffusing particles, and the medium through which they are spreading. Higher temperatures generally lead to faster diffusion because particles have more kinetic energy and move more rapidly. Similarly, smaller and lighter particles diffuse faster than larger and heavier ones. The density and viscosity of the medium also influence the speed of spreading.
