Leitwerke
Leitwerk, in aviation, refers to the tail assembly located at the rear of a fixed‑wing aircraft. It serves to provide longitudinal and directional stability and houses the primary control surfaces used to control pitch and yaw. The Leitwerk is typically composed of a horizontal stabilizer (Höhenleitwerk) with an elevator for pitch control and a vertical stabilizer (Seitenleitwerk) with a rudder for yaw control. Depending on design, these surfaces may be mounted as a conventional tail, be combined into a single unit, or be arranged in alternative configurations such as a V-tail or a T-tail.
Variations of the Leitwerk include conventional tailplanes, where the horizontal stabilizer is mounted near the base
Function and design considerations include maintaining longitudinal stability across the flight envelope, providing sufficient control power
