Leikkuuöljy

Leikkuuöljy, also known as cutting fluid or metalworking fluid, is a type of industrial lubricant used during machining operations. Its primary purpose is to cool the cutting tool and the workpiece, reduce friction between them, and flush away chips and debris. This not only extends the life of the cutting tool but also improves the surface finish of the material being worked on.

There are several types of leikkuuöljy, each suited for different applications. Straight oils are undiluted mineral or synthetic oils that offer excellent lubrication and cooling but can be more difficult to clean. Soluble oils, also known as emulsions, are oil-in-water mixtures that provide good cooling and moderate lubrication. They are easy to clean but can be prone to bacterial growth. Semi-synthetic fluids are a blend of mineral oil, water, and additives, offering a balance of cooling and lubrication. Synthetic fluids contain no mineral oil and are primarily water-based, providing excellent cooling but less lubrication.

The selection of the appropriate leikkuuöljy depends on factors such as the type of metal being machined, the cutting speed, the depth of cut, and the desired surface finish. Proper handling and disposal of leikkuuöljy are also important due to potential environmental and health concerns.
