It refers to the specialized table used in surgical procedures where a patient is positioned for medical operations. These tables are designed to provide stability and comfort for the patient while allowing surgeons optimal access to the surgical site.

Modern operating tables are highly engineered and can be adjusted in numerous ways. They can typically be moved vertically to set the ideal working height for the surgical team. Furthermore, the table can be tilted in various directions, including Trendelenburg (head down) and reverse Trendelenburg (head up), as well as laterally (side to side). Operating tables are constructed from materials that are durable, easy to clean, and can withstand sterilization processes, such as stainless steel or specialized plastics. The surface of the table is often radiolucent, meaning it allows X-rays to pass through, enabling surgeons to use imaging equipment during the operation without needing to move the patient.
