Leigong

Leigong, also known as the Thunder Duke or Lord Lei, is a prominent deity in Chinese folk religion and Taoism. He is primarily associated with thunder and lightning, commanding the skies with his powerful presence. Leigong is often depicted as a fearsome figure, typically with avian features, such as wings and claws, and wielding a hammer and chisel to strike the heavens and create thunder. He is sometimes accompanied by his consort, Dian Mu, the Mother of Lightning, who controls lightning.

The worship of Leigong is widespread, with temples and shrines dedicated to him throughout China and in Chinese communities worldwide. He is invoked for protection, particularly during thunderstorms, and is also seen as a dispenser of justice, punishing wrongdoers with his thunderous might. While his image can be intimidating, Leigong is not solely a destructive force; he is also believed to bring rain essential for agriculture. His role in the celestial hierarchy varies, but he is consistently recognized as a vital deity responsible for one of nature's most dramatic phenomena. The legends and stories surrounding Leigong contribute to his enduring significance in Chinese mythology and religious practice.
