However, glass lenses have several drawbacks. They are considerably heavier than lenses made from modern plastic materials, which can lead to discomfort, especially for those who wear glasses for extended periods or require strong prescriptions. Glass is also more fragile and prone to shattering upon impact, posing a safety risk.
