Lanthanumstrontium

Lanthanumstrontium refers to compounds containing both lanthanum and strontium. These elements are both rare earth metals, belonging to the lanthanide series of the periodic table, although lanthanum is technically the first element in this series and strontium is an alkaline earth metal. They are often found together in mineral deposits, particularly in the mineral monazite.

For example, lanthanum strontium cobaltate (LSC) is a well-known mixed metal oxide with the chemical formula LaSrCoO3. This material has garnered significant interest due to its electrical and catalytic properties. It is a perovskite oxide that can be doped with strontium to create oxygen vacancies, which are crucial for its conductivity and catalytic activity. LSC is widely studied for applications in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) as a cathode material, as well as in oxygen separation membranes and as a catalyst in various chemical reactions. The precise ratio of lanthanum to strontium in these materials can be finely tuned to optimize performance for specific applications. Other lanthanum-strontium compounds exist, but LSC is the most prominent in scientific and industrial research.
