Lankesh

Lankesh, born T. Narasimhan, was a prominent Indian journalist, editor, and publisher who founded and edited the Kannada weekly newspaper Lankesh Patrike. He was a significant figure in Kannada literature and journalism, known for his fearless and often critical commentary on social and political issues.

Lankesh was born in 1935 in Shimoga, Karnataka. He initially pursued a career in acting and filmmaking before turning to journalism. His newspaper, Lankesh Patrike, which he started in 1983, became a platform for investigative journalism and critical analysis. He was a vocal critic of corruption and injustice, and his writings often sparked public debate and challenged established powers.

Beyond his journalistic endeavors, Lankesh was also a respected writer and playwright. He authored several novels, short stories, and plays that explored themes of social inequality, human relationships, and the complexities of life. His literary works were critically acclaimed and contributed significantly to modern Kannada literature.

Lankesh's commitment to truth and his uncompromising stance against injustice earned him both admirers and critics. He passed away in 2000, leaving behind a legacy as a fearless journalist and a conscientious voice for the common people. His daughter, Gauri Lankesh, followed in his footsteps, becoming a journalist and editor who also faced significant adversity for her outspoken views.
