Lampcap

Lampcap refers to a small, often decorative, cap or cover placed on top of a lamp. Its primary function can be aesthetic, adding a finishing touch to the lamp's design, or practical, helping to diffuse light or prevent dust from accumulating inside the lampshade or fixture. Lampcaps vary widely in material, shape, and size, reflecting the diverse styles of lamps they adorn.

Common materials used for lampcaps include metal (such as brass, bronze, or nickel), glass, ceramic, or even fabric. Their design can range from simple, unadorned discs to elaborate finials featuring intricate carvings, gemstones, or sculpted figures. In some cases, the lampcap may also serve a functional purpose beyond decoration. For instance, a larger or more opaque lampcap might direct light downwards, creating an accent lighting effect. Conversely, a translucent cap could soften the glow from the bulb. The term is less common than "finial" but describes a similar decorative element at the apex of a lamp.
