Laminatiestacks

Laminatiestacks is a term used in niche discussions of layered data structures and execution models. It does not have a single, widely accepted definition, but generally refers to a stack-like abstraction built from multiple laminated layers, or laminas, each representing a distinct context or policy.

Conceptually, a laminatiestack is an ordered collection of laminas. Each lamina provides its own small stack with push and pop operations, state, and invariants. Operations target the current top lamina, with the option to create new laminas, move between them, or unwind across boundaries. Some designs push values into a new lamina to establish a context; others require traversing boundaries when a lamina completes or is discarded. Cross-lamina semantics are typically explicit to preserve properties such as security, transactions, or provenance.

Implementation commonly uses a linked list of lamina frames, each containing its own internal stack and a pointer to the previous lamina. Performance is dominated by per-lamina costs, while boundary transitions add overhead. Typical expectations include constant-time pushes and pops within a lamina and well-defined costs for lamina operations.

Potential use cases include language runtimes that enforce isolation between components, secure sandboxes, and support for effects or policies that must be tracked across nested computations.
