Lairan

Lairan is a town and municipal seat in the Valebrook Province of Aldoria. Located along the Lir River, it is about 60 kilometers north of the provincial capital and covers an area of roughly 42 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape comprises rolling farmland, small woodlands, and gentle hills, with a temperate climate and four distinct seasons.

Founded in the 13th century by settlers migrating from valley settlements, Lairan grew as a farming and market town. Its name is rooted in the old language of the region, meaning “river bend,” a reference to a sharp bend in the Lir that runs through the town. The medieval core is preserved in the old town center, with several centuries-old buildings.

Lairan operates as a municipal council under a mayor–council system. The council is elected by residents and handles local planning, schools, and services. As of the latest estimates, the town has a population of around 7,500 residents, with a growing commuter population connected to the regional capital.

Local economy centers on agriculture, horticulture, and small-scale manufacturing. A regional campus of the Valebrook Institute of Technology offers vocational and technical programs. Small businesses, craft industries, and agribusiness supply chains contribute to the town’s employment and tax base.

Lairan features a historic main square, the Lir Gate, and an annual Harvest Market that attracts visitors from neighboring districts. The town is served by a regional road network and a railway line linking to the regional capital; the nearest international airport is about 90 kilometers away.
