LNG import terminals are facilities designed to receive, store, and regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to approximately -162 degrees Celsius (-260 degrees Fahrenheit), transforming it into a liquid state for easier transportation and storage. These terminals play a crucial role in the global energy market, allowing countries to import natural gas from regions with abundant supplies to meet their domestic demand.

The process begins with LNG carriers docking at the terminal. The cryogenic liquid is then transferred from the ship's tanks to the terminal's storage tanks, which are heavily insulated to maintain the extremely low temperature. Once stored, the LNG is pumped to a regasification unit. Here, it is heated, typically using seawater or steam, to convert it back into its gaseous state. The regasified natural gas is then fed into the local pipeline network for distribution to industrial, commercial, and residential consumers.

LNG import terminals can vary in size and capacity, from small-scale facilities serving local markets to large, deep-water ports capable of handling the largest LNG carriers. They often include specialized equipment for cargo handling, safety systems for managing cryogenic materials, and infrastructure for connecting to onshore gas grids.
