Lümfisõlmedega

Lümfisõlmedega is the Estonian term for lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped glands that are part of the lymphatic system. They are located throughout the body, including in the neck, armpits, and groin.

The primary function of lymph nodes is to filter lymph fluid, a clear to yellowish fluid that carries white blood cells and other immune cells. As lymph fluid passes through the lymph nodes, it is screened for harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells. Immune cells within the lymph nodes identify and destroy these foreign invaders, helping to protect the body from infection and disease.

When the body is fighting an infection, lymph nodes can become swollen and tender. This swelling, often referred to as lymphadenopathy, is a sign that the immune system is actively working. In some cases, swollen lymph nodes can indicate more serious conditions, such as cancer, and medical evaluation is recommended.

The lymphatic system, of which lymph nodes are a crucial part, plays a vital role in maintaining fluid balance in the body and supporting the immune system. It is a complex network that works in conjunction with the circulatory system to transport immune cells and remove waste products.
