Lülitusliigid

Lülitusliigid refers to different types of electrical switches and their classifications. Switches are fundamental components in electrical circuits, enabling the control of current flow by connecting or disconnecting electrical pathways. Broadly, they can be categorized based on their function, operating mechanism, and application.

A primary classification is based on the number of poles and throws. A pole refers to the number of separate circuits that a switch can control, while a throw indicates the number of different circuit positions each pole can assume. For example, a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch controls one circuit and has two positions: on and off. A double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switch controls two separate circuits and can connect each circuit to one of two alternative paths.

Switches can also be classified by their operating mechanism. This includes manual switches, such as toggle, pushbutton, rocker, and rotary switches, which are operated by direct physical force. Automatic switches, on the other hand, respond to changes in electrical or physical conditions. Examples include relays, which are electromechanical switches activated by an electrical signal, and sensors that act as switches, like thermostats or pressure switches.

Further distinctions are made based on the switch's state. Latching switches maintain their state after activation, meaning they remain either on or off until manually or electrically switched again. Non-latching or momentary switches only maintain their state while the actuating force is applied; they return to their default position when the force is removed, like a doorbell button. The materials used and their electrical ratings, such as voltage and current capacity, are also critical factors in determining the suitability of a switch for a particular application, ranging from low-power electronics to high-voltage industrial equipment.
