By knowing L, L₀, and α, one can calculate the temperature or, if the temperature is known, correct the measured length.

Similar principles apply to other properties like volume expansion, resistance changes, and even the density of fluids. In scientific and engineering applications, using temperature corrections ensures accuracy and comparability of data across different conditions.
