Küünarliigestele

Küünarliigestele refers to the elbow joints in Estonian. The elbow is a complex hinge joint connecting the upper arm bone (humerus) to the two forearm bones, the radius and the ulna. This joint allows for a wide range of motion, primarily flexion and extension, enabling the bending and straightening of the arm. Additionally, the articulation between the radius and ulna facilitates supination and pronation, the movements that rotate the forearm palm-up and palm-down, respectively.

The elbow joint is surrounded by a capsule filled with synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint and reduces friction. Several ligaments, including the collateral ligaments (ulnar and radial) and the annular ligament, provide stability to the joint, preventing excessive sideways movement. Muscles, such as the biceps brachii, triceps brachii, and forearm muscles, act as the prime movers and stabilizers during various arm actions.

Common issues affecting the küünarliigestele include injuries like sprains, dislocations, and fractures, often resulting from falls or direct trauma. Overuse can lead to conditions such as tendinitis (e.g., tennis elbow or golfer's elbow) and bursitis. Degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis can also affect the elbow joint, causing pain and stiffness. Proper diagnosis and treatment are crucial for maintaining the function and mobility of the elbow joints.
