Kütusesõiduk

Kütusesõiduk is an Estonian term that translates to "fuel vehicle" or "combustion engine vehicle." It refers to any vehicle that is powered by an internal combustion engine, which generates power by burning a fuel such as gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. This is in contrast to alternative vehicle types like electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, or vehicles powered by human or animal power.

The vast majority of vehicles in use today are kütusesõidukid. This category includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, buses, and many types of construction and agricultural machinery. The combustion process within the engine converts the chemical energy stored in the fuel into mechanical energy, which then drives the vehicle's wheels.

While kütusesõidukid have been the dominant form of personal and commercial transportation for over a century, they are associated with several environmental concerns. The combustion process releases greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, which contribute to climate change, as well as other pollutants that can harm air quality. Consequently, there is a growing global trend towards developing and adopting alternative powertrains, such as electric propulsion, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate environmental impact. Despite this shift, kütusesõidukid remain a significant part of the global transportation landscape due to their established infrastructure and historical dominance.
