Külmas

Külmas is a village located in Skipagaten Bay, a coastal area in the Qeqertarsuaq district on the island of Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland. The village is situated on the northwestern coast of the island, approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of the capital town of Qaanaaq. It is one of the many small settlements in the region, inhabited by the Inuit people.

Külmas was traditionally used as a whaling camp during the summer months, when large schools of whales were attracted to the area's rich marine life. Residents of the nearby village of Nutaaniak traveled to Külmas to hunt and process the whales, harvesting their blubber and meat for food and oil. Whaling remains an important part of the local economy, with many residents continuing to make a living from this activity.

The village of Külmas is small, with fewer than 10 residents, making it one of the most sparsely populated settlements in Greenland. Housing is typically simple, consisting of traditional Inuit sod houses and more recent additions of Inupiaq-style modular houses built by the Danish government for those living in remote areas.

Tourism in the area has also increased in recent years, with travelers visiting Külmas and surrounding areas to experience traditional Inuit culture and witness the beautiful landscapes and wildlife of the Arctic region. However, the fragile ecosystem and climate of the area demand careful planning and respect from visitors to maintain the region's natural beauty for generations to come.
