Külfölddel

Külfölddel is the instrumental case form of the Hungarian noun külföld (foreign country). It literally means “with a foreign country” or “with foreign countries” and is used to describe actions, relations, or contacts that involve foreign partners. The form is created by attaching the instrumental suffix -del/-vel to külföld, with standard orthographic rules applying.

The term appears primarily in formal or official language and is common in diplomacy, business, law, education, and journalism. It is used to indicate cooperation, negotiation, or interaction with other nations, rather than the location of activity. Typical constructions include külfölddel kötött megállapodás (an agreement concluded with a foreign country), külfölddel folytatott gazdasági kapcsolatok (economic relations with foreign countries), and külfölddel való együttműködés (cooperation with foreign countries). It can also describe policies or discussions that involve foreign partners, as in a government or company’s approach to külfölddel kapcsolatos kérdések (foreign-related issues).

In contrast to phrases indicating location or direction, such as külföldön (in/at abroad) or külföldre (to abroad), külfölddel denotes interaction or involvement with foreign entities. It is one of several instrumental forms used to express partnerships, agreements, or exchanges with other nations, and it tends to occur in formal documentation, policy discussions, and business communications.
