Köztárság
Köztársaság is the Hungarian word for republic. It refers to a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter," not the private concern or property of the rulers. In a republic, supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. Hungary has a history of republican governance, with various periods of republican rule interspersed with other political systems. The current form of government in Hungary is a parliamentary republic. The head of state is the President of Hungary, who is elected by the National Assembly. The head of government is the Prime Minister, who is appointed by the President and is typically the leader of the majority party or coalition in the National Assembly. The term "köztársaság" therefore signifies a state where sovereignty resides with the citizens, exercised through their chosen representatives.
