Környezetnyomáshoz, often translated as environmental footprint or ecological footprint, refers to the measurement of humanity's impact on the environment. It quantifies the amount of biologically productive land and water area required to produce the resources a population consumes and to absorb the waste it generates. This concept helps illustrate the demand placed on natural ecosystems by human activities, such as agriculture, forestry, fishing, and infrastructure development.

The calculation of environmental footprint typically considers various components, including carbon footprint (greenhouse gas emissions), cropland footprint (land needed for food and fiber), grazing land footprint (land for livestock), forest footprint (timber and paper consumption), fishing grounds footprint (aquatic resources), and built-up land footprint (infrastructure). By summing these components, a comprehensive picture of resource consumption and waste assimilation is created.

A key aspect of environmental footprint analysis is comparing humanity's aggregate demand with the Earth's biocapacity, which is the planet's ability to regenerate renewable resources and absorb waste.
