Könnytermel

Könnytermel is a Hungarian term that translates to "tear producer" or "tear gland." It generally refers to the biological structures responsible for the secretion of tears in the eyes. These structures are crucial for maintaining eye health and function. The primary tear-producing gland is the lacrimal gland, located above the outer corner of each eye. It secretes the watery component of tears, which helps to lubricate the eye surface, wash away debris, and protect against infection. Additional smaller glands, such as the meibomian glands in the eyelids, contribute to the oily layer of the tear film, preventing rapid evaporation. Tears are composed of water, salts, antibodies, and enzymes. The production of tears is a continuous process, but it can be stimulated by various factors, including emotional responses, irritants in the environment, or even blinking. The drainage of tears is also an important physiological mechanism, with tears typically flowing through tiny openings called puncta into the lacrimal sac and then down the nasolacrimal duct into the nasal cavity. Disruptions to the normal functioning of the könnytermel can lead to conditions like dry eye syndrome or excessive tearing (epiphora).
