High concentrations can be dangerous. Due to its health and environmental effects, regulations are in place in many countries to limit sulfur dioxide emissions from industrial sources. Despite its negative impacts, sulfur dioxide also has some industrial applications, such as a preservative in food and beverages and as a bleaching agent.
