Käynnistintyypit refers to the different methods or mechanisms used to start an internal combustion engine. These types are primarily designed to provide the initial rotational force needed for the engine to begin its combustion cycle.

One common type is the electric starter motor. This system uses an electric motor powered by the vehicle's battery. When the ignition is turned, the starter motor engages with the engine's flywheel or flexplate, spinning it at a sufficient speed to initiate combustion. This is the most prevalent starting system in modern automobiles and motorcycles.

Another historical and still occasionally used method is the hand-crank starter. In this system, a crank is inserted into a socket on the front of the engine and manually rotated. This requires considerable physical effort and is largely found on older vehicles or some small engines like lawnmowers.

Kickstarters are another manual method, common on motorcycles. A lever is pushed down with the foot, engaging a mechanism that spins the engine's crankshaft. This also requires physical exertion but is a reliable and simple starting system.

Some engines, particularly larger industrial or marine engines, may use compressed air starters. A reservoir of compressed air is used to drive a pneumatic motor, which in turn spins the engine. This method is efficient for large displacement engines where electric or manual starting would be impractical.
