Käsinõelad, also known as knitting needles, are tools used to create knitted fabric. They are typically pointed at one end and can be made from a variety of materials including wood, bamboo, metal, or plastic. The primary function of knitting needles is to manipulate yarn into loops, which are then interlocked to form a continuous piece of fabric.

Knitting needles come in various lengths and thicknesses, with the thickness determining the gauge or size of the stitches. The thicker the needle, the larger the stitches and the fabric will be looser. Conversely, thinner needles create smaller, denser stitches. Needles are often sold in sets and can be used individually for certain techniques like i-cord, or in pairs for traditional flat knitting. Circular knitting needles, which consist of two needle tips joined by a flexible cable, are used for knitting in the round or for large projects. Double-pointed needles, usually sold in sets of four or five, are also used for knitting small circumference items like socks and hats. The choice of needle material can affect the knitting experience, with metal needles being smooth and fast, while wood or bamboo needles offer more grip.
