Kärnvapennedrustningens refers to the process of reducing or eliminating nuclear weapons. The ultimate goal of nuclear disarmament is to prevent the use of nuclear weapons and to create a world free from their threat.

The history of nuclear disarmament efforts began shortly after the development of nuclear weapons in the mid-20th century. Early efforts focused on preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons to additional countries. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), signed in 1968, is a cornerstone of these efforts, aiming to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology while promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Despite progress, significant challenges remain. The existence of nuclear weapons continues to pose a serious threat to global security. Furthermore, negotiations on disarmament can be complex and are often influenced by geopolitical tensions and differing national security interests. International cooperation and continued diplomatic engagement are crucial for advancing the cause of nuclear disarmament and achieving a world without nuclear weapons.
