Kymin

Kymin is a Finnish company that historically operated in the pulp and paper industry. Founded in 1872 in Kuusankoski, it was one of the largest industrial enterprises in Finland for many decades. The company's primary focus was on the production of paper, pulp, and later, various chemical products derived from wood processing. Kymin played a significant role in the economic development of its region and in the Finnish export market.

Over its long history, Kymin underwent several transformations and mergers. In 1996, it merged with Kymmene Corporation and Repola Ltd to form UPM-Kymmene Corporation, now known as UPM. This merger created one of the world's largest forest industry companies. The historical legacy of Kymin is thus intertwined with the development and current structure of UPM. The former industrial sites associated with Kymin are still important centers for paper and pulp production within the UPM network. The company's name, Kymin, is derived from the Kymi River, which was crucial for its operations, providing water for processing and power for its mills.
