Kvootproovivõtt

Kvootproovivõtt is an Estonian term referring to a method of sampling where the sampling process is influenced by predetermined quotas. This is not a random sampling technique. Instead, researchers decide in advance how many individuals of specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, socioeconomic status, geographical location) need to be included in the sample. The selection within these quotas is often done using non-probability methods, such as convenience sampling or purposive sampling. The aim is to ensure that the sample reflects the known proportions of certain characteristics within the target population, making it potentially more representative in those specific aspects than purely random methods might achieve by chance. However, it does not guarantee overall statistical representativeness. Kvootproovivõtt is frequently used in market research and opinion polls where specific demographic groups need to be adequately represented to draw conclusions about their views or behaviors. The main advantage is its cost-effectiveness and speed compared to probability sampling. The primary disadvantage is the potential for selection bias, as the non-random selection within quotas can introduce systematic errors that are difficult to quantify.
