Kvartsilasia

Kvartsilasia, also known as fused quartz or fused silica, is a non-crystalline amorphous form of silicon dioxide (SiO2). It is characterized by its high purity and exceptional thermal and optical properties. Unlike glass made from a mixture of silica sand and other additives, kvartsilasia is typically produced by melting very pure quartz sand or by synthesizing it directly from silicon and oxygen.

The unique molecular structure of kvartsilasia, with its randomly oriented silica tetrahedra, contributes to its remarkable properties. It exhibits a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, meaning it can withstand extreme temperature changes without fracturing. This makes it ideal for applications involving rapid heating and cooling cycles. Kvartsilasia also possesses excellent transparency across a broad spectrum of ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light, a property not found in common glasses.

Due to its high purity and resistance to chemical attack, kvartsilasia is used in demanding scientific and industrial environments. It finds applications in laboratory equipment such as crucibles and beakers, optical components like lenses and prisms, semiconductor manufacturing, and high-intensity lighting. Its ability to withstand high temperatures and harsh chemical conditions makes it a preferred material where standard glass would fail. The production process and specific additives can further refine its properties for specialized uses.
