Kuvaustilojen, often translated as "shooting modes" or "exposure modes," refers to the settings on a digital camera that allow the user to control the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These modes dictate how much automation the camera provides and how much creative control the photographer has.

The most basic mode is typically Automatic (Auto). In this mode, the camera determines all exposure settings to achieve what it calculates as a balanced image. It's ideal for beginners or for situations where quick capture is prioritized over creative control.

Semi-automatic modes offer a balance. Program Auto (P) allows the camera to set both aperture and shutter speed, but the photographer can adjust ISO and other parameters. Aperture Priority (A or Av) lets the user set the aperture, controlling depth of field, while the camera selects the appropriate shutter speed. Shutter Priority (S or Tv) allows the user to set the shutter speed, controlling motion blur, and the camera chooses the aperture.

Manual (M) mode provides complete control. The photographer sets the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO independently, allowing for maximum creative expression and precise control over the final image.

Beyond these core modes, many cameras offer scene modes, such as Portrait, Landscape, Sports, and Night. These modes pre-program a combination of settings optimized for specific photographic situations.
