Kuulustelut

Kuulustelut are investigative measures used by law enforcement agencies to gather information and evidence in relation to a suspected crime. In Finnish law, the police have the authority to conduct investigations, including interrogations, to determine the facts surrounding a crime. The purpose of kuulustelut is to collect statements and other information that may be relevant to the investigation.

Kuulustelut can take place in various settings, including police stations, interviews at the suspect's home or workplace, or other locations relevant to the investigation. The inquiry may be conducted in person, by phone, or electronically. The person conducting the interrogation, usually a detective or investigator, is required to inform the suspect of their rights, including the right to remain silent and the right to seek legal counsel.

During the interrogation, the investigator may ask questions and record the suspect's statements, as well as collect other relevant information. The suspect is required to cooperate with the investigation, but they are not obligated to answer any questions or provide information that they are not willing to provide. The police are also required to inform the suspect about the purpose and scope of the interrogation.

In Finland, the use of coercion or duress by law enforcement during kuulustelut is strictly prohibited. Interrogations must be conducted in a way that respects the suspect's rights and dignity. Additionally, any statements or information obtained during the investigation may be used as evidence in a court of law, if it is deemed to be reliable and credible by the prosecution.
