Kuuloalttiudesta, or susceptibility to hearing damage, refers to an individual's varying predisposition to experience harm to their auditory system from noise exposure. This susceptibility can be influenced by a combination of genetic factors and environmental influences. Some individuals may possess genetic variations that make their inner ear structures more vulnerable to the damaging effects of loud sounds, while others may have a more robust auditory system.

The primary cause of noise-induced hearing loss is exposure to excessive sound pressure levels. This can occur from a single, extremely loud event (acoustic trauma) or from prolonged exposure to moderately loud noise over time. Factors such as the intensity of the sound, the duration of exposure, and the frequency of the sound all play a role in the potential for damage.
