Kurumbas

Kurumbas are a small, indigenous ethnic group primarily residing in the Western Ghats of India, particularly in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. They are known for their distinct culture, language, and traditional way of life. The Kurumbas are traditionally hunter-gatherers and farmers, cultivating crops such as rice, tapioca, and bananas. Their traditional homes are known as "Kurumba Kottas," which are simple, thatched-roof structures.

The Kurumbas have a rich oral tradition, with stories and legends passed down through generations. They have a unique language, Kurumba, which is part of the Dravidian language family. The Kurumbas are also known for their traditional attire, which includes colorful sarongs and headgear made from leaves and flowers.

Despite their traditional lifestyle, the Kurumbas have also adapted to modern life, with many now working in various professions. However, they continue to preserve their cultural heritage through festivals, music, and dance. The Kurumbas are recognized as one of the Scheduled Tribes in India, and their rights and welfare are protected under the Constitution of India.
