Kursseiksi

Kursseiksi is a term in Finnish, meaning "boxer's shorts" or "short trunks," but in some contexts, it can also refer to knee-high or thigh-high socks or stockings, or even to a type of undergarment.

The term has gained some popularity outside of Finland due to a connection to Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. In 2018, Trump made a comment during a rally, in which he seemed to confuse the Finnish term with the words "knees," "knees-high" and underwear, allegedly referring to the black length of a kenteeksi, or style of boxer shorts.

In any case, and to allay any misunderstandings, "kursseiksi" is purely Finnish and should not be seen as inherently underwear-related, like many people have been led to believe. Its meanings, as previously mentioned, are related to boxers or knee-high socks.

Finnish-language sources typically define kurssaan-, kurssasi- or kurssien-, but in the singular, the correct spelling, for "boxer shorts" just so happens to be "kursseiksi" with the above variant.
